Key targets up for grabs:
Toby Johnson (DT) a JUCO player out of Kansas. Rivals rating: 4 star. Has offers from many big name football programs, including PSU, which offered him on Sept 28th. Has yet to visit.
Al-Rasheed Benton (LB) out of Newark, NJ. Rivals rating: 4 star. Prior to sanctions, it seemed that Benton was set and ready to commit to Penn State football. Now, it looks like PSU has taken a back seat behind Pitt and West Virginia. Would be a needed pick up for PSU in maintaining its recruiting strength in New Jersey.
DaeSean Hamilton (WR) out of Virginia. Rivals rating: 3 star. Has offers from Miami, Michigan State, Illinois, Virginia Tech. PSU is in the running.
Brian Lemelle (WR) out of Harrisburg, PA. Rivals rating: 3 star. Has offers from Nebraska, Iowa, Purdue, West Virginia, Virginia Tech. Don’t expect any decision soon. Brian hasn’t made any indications of “top” schools as of yet and will continue to visit schools to figure out where he’ll play football this fall.
Zayd Issah (LB) out of Harrisburg, PA. Rivals rating: 3 star. Originally committed to PSU over the Summer, then reopened recruitment following sanctions. Still has PSU towards the top of his lists….although offers continue to increase.
Trey Johnson (LB) out of Georgia. Rivals rating: 4 star and the third best LB in the country. He verbally committed to Auburn in August, but recently announced that he’ll be taking some official visits this Fall, including one to PSU. It’ll be a long shot for PSU, but if they can pickup Johnson this late in the game, it would be huge.
Key targets with low interest:
Tyler Boyd (WR) out of Clairton, PA. Rivals rating: 4 star. Over the Summer, it looked like Boyd was leaning heavily towards PSU, especially after spending some time with Hackenburg at camp. Since sanctions, Boyd has moved PSU out of his top choices.
Dorian Johnson (OL) out of Belle Vernon, PA. Rivals rating: 4 star. Huge loss for PSU when he decommited following the sanctions. One of top offensive lineman in the country. Looks like he has it narrowed down to Pitt, Virginia Tech, and Ohio State.
David Williams (RB) out of Philadelphia, PA. Rivals rating: 4 star. Like Boyd, it seemed like Williams was leaning towards Penn State over the Summer. Since then, Williams has pushed PSU lower on the list. It sounds like South Carolina has the edge, but don’t expect any decision soon.
Robert Foster (WR) out of Monaca, PA. Rivals rating: 4 star. One of the most sought out players in the country, has offers from virtually every big time program. Unfortunately, PSU is out of the running despite location. Expect to see Foster at Alabama, although Ohio State and Pitt are still in the running.
Under the radar targets:
Chasz Wright (OT) out of Woodbridge, VA. Rivals rating: 2 star. It looks like PSU currently competing with N.C. State and Connecticut, although the offer may grow. Would be a solid pickup for the offensive line if PSU pulls him to Happy Valley.
Jake Waters (QB) currently starting at Iowa Western Community College is one of the hottest junior college prospects in the nation right now. Picked up offers from N.C. State, Akron, and FAU.
Jonathan Walton (LB) out of Alabama. Rivals lists him as a 2 star. He is planning to make an official visit this season, likely the Ohio State game on October 27th. Not being recruited by any big name football programs.
Jake Plonski (LB) out of Erie, PA. No Rivals rating. Has been in contact with Ted Roff, defense coordinator at Penn State, for some time now. No offer from PSU yet, but should be coming soon.
Zac Parker (WR/DB) out of Virginia. Rivals lists him as a 2 star. Doesn’t have many offers, but in contact with some top schools (i.e. West Virginia, Virginia Tech). Look for a PSU offer soon.
Devin Wilson (WR) out of McKees Rocks PA. Rivals lists him as a 2 star. Has offers from Akron, Ohio, N.C. State, and Temple. A decent receiver with size.
Wesley Bullock (RB) out of Tampa, Florida. Rivals lists him as a 2 star. Just received a PSU offer this past week. A small back at 5’7” 160 lbs, but don’t let the size fool you. This kid can play. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=fIXScQwY8yQ#!
